Apple Cider Vinegar: A Cure For Dandruff
In my quest to get rid of dandruff, I have tried almost everything –from the most popular products to the least known to home remedies. Although some of the home remedies actually work and popular products work too (from time to time) I have never found one method that actually gets rid of itchiness on one’s scalp and gets rid of dandruff altogether. Many say that dandruff is just a cosmetic problem but one has to remember that it can cause certain infections on the skin and can even affect other parts of the body such as the ears. This is the reason why there are some people with ear dandruff.
The Experiment
What I did is shampoo my hair thoroughly with my favorite shampoo. After washing the shampoo off, I dried my hair with a towel and then applied one cup of apple cider vinegar. I left it on my hair for about 10 minutes and then rinsed it off. I shampooed again after that. I waited for my hair to dry.
The Result
This may be hard to believe but my hair is now softer than ever and there is no more itching on my scalp. I don’t see any dandruff flakes either. Another great thing about this experiment is that my hair is now shinier and easier to manage.
The Explanation
In the pH scale, hair is mildly acidic which means that its pH is almost the same as that of apple cider vinegar. Rinsing with apple cider vinegar helps in balancing the pH of your hair and your scalp. The great thing about apple cider vinegar is that it kills bottle bacillus –the bacterium that causes dandruff and itchy scalp.
What if I do not have apple cider vinegar at home?
You can use any type of vinegar but please do not use synthetic ones. Vinegar of any kind whether we’re talking about sugarcane vinegar or any other type, is a natural antiseptic. It kills all sorts of germs.
