If you are anything like me, you don't like to shave. I have shave everyday or you can see black stubble on my legs and under my arms. Actually, you always see black stubble under my arms, even right after I shave, but I haven't gone and gotton laser hair removal yet. It's just too expensive, $200 per treatment for under the arms, and you need at leat three treatments for it to work. A friend of mine just had her first treatment under her arms and I couldn't tell a single bit. This is why I am pleased to learn about Tria Personal Laser Hair Removal System.
What is it:It's an at home laser hair removal system.
How it works: TRIA System’s laser energy targets the dark pigment in the hair, where it is transformed into heat that disables the hair follicle. This targeted process causes the hair to gradually fall out and stop growing back. You have to repeat the process bi-weekly for about three months, then once a month for the next five months as the hair follicles move through the growth cycle and are treated.
You ARE a suitable candidate for laser hair removal if:
You have naturally medium brown, dark brown, or black hair and your skin is white, ivory, beige, or light brown.
You ARE NOT a suitable candidate for laser hair removal if:
You have naturally blonde, red, white, or gray hair; your skin is dark to deep brown or black; or you are of African-American, East Indian, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent.
It is sold at select stores for about $795.
A second major player in home hair removal was approved by the FDA this year and launched shortly after the Tria. Silk'n is the first at-home pulsed light, which causes heat injury to the hair's root, but it achieves this with several different wavelengths of light. It will be sold only at doctors' offices for $800, and in clinical studies, testers reported an average reduction of 40 to 75 percent in hair growth after three treatments spaced two weeks apart and measured three months after the last treatment.
The experts say that since the Tria isn't as powerful as lasers at a spa they will likely result in the thinning and lightening of dark hair rather than the permanent removal of it and women may eventually see the results plateau. As for Silk'n, the studies suggest that for most people with the appropriate skin tone and hair color, the Silk'n should effectively reduce hair in the treated areas.
