Botox vs. Dysport

by Catherine May 03, 2010 06:39

Everyone is asking what is the difference between the two types of Botulintoxin A and B - Botox and Dysport. I got some feedback from a spa owner who administers both on herself and her clients.

Botox facts:
- average costs $12 per unit
- usually need about 50 plus units for eyes, forehead and brow
- takes effect 5 to 10 days after administration
- effects last about 3 to 4 months

Dysport facts:
- average costs $4 per unit
- usually need about 100 units for eyes, forehead and brow
- takes effect 3 to 7 days after administration
- effects last about 4 to 5 months

Both Botox and Dysport stop the muscles in the face from moving, thus not allowing our face or skin to wrinkle while the toxin is effective. The main difference between the two is price and the amount of actual cc's, or units, that get injected into the face. Since Dysport is about $4 a unit, but you need twice as much, it comes out to be about $2 less per effective dosage. However the quanity od fluid injected in the face is double, so the needle will be in the face in each spot twice as long, about 3 seconds per shot, versus the 1.5 second per shot of Botox. Since either Botox or Dysport regular injections can be pretty pricey, Dysport is becoming more popular, but those that don't like the needle are sticking with Botox.

Not every spa or doctors office that administers Botox offers Dysport, so if that is what you are seeking, ask ahead.

Botox and its Side Effects

by Sig March 24, 2010 11:22

Are you seriously considering getting injected with BOTOX? This prescription medicine is used by cosmetic surgeons to tighten the facial skin of their patients. What many do not know however is that the effects of BOTOX is only temporary and may cause several side effects as well. It's case to case basis, some people do not have any side effects at all while others do. These side effects are not the usual headache or vomiting because they can be life threatening. Some of the side effects include problems speaking because the muscles on your skin are already numb. Some people even have difficulty swallowing and breathing making your Botox experience rather difficult if you did not react well to the injected drug. Whats worse is that the toxin may even spread in areas where it's not supposed to spread. If you start feeling weak or suddenly losses your strength, have double or blurred vision -it signals that you call your doctor immediately. Letting this pass will not do you any good because botulinum toxin is already spreading in your body and you can't fight that by just drinking water and eating lots of fruits. You may even loss bladder control if it spreads in other parts of your body.

Before you go to a cosmetic surgeon, you have to ask him or her about the side effects and how they can be treated. Difficulty swallowing and speaking may last 7 months for some so be sure that you are prepared for such consequences. If you have already decided on getting a treatment like this, you should tell your cosmetic surgeon about all your muscle conditions. If you have allergic reactions to the prescription medicine, do not get a treatment just because of aesthetics purposes, after all, your skin will go back to its normal form after a short period of time.

Botox vs. Wrinkle Creams

by Sig March 23, 2010 11:08

Doctors keep many secrets and they keep secrets about wrinkles creams as well. This however is not a generalization because some doctors will tell you outright what topical creams will do to you. But what are the things they're keeping from patients? Many doctors especially those in the cosmetics department say that wrinkle creams do not work and never really did. They claim that they just nourish the skin and will not repair or get rid of wrinkles. If aesthetics doctors said otherwise they would lose their jobs because the truth is, there are many good products out there that can "fix" your wrinkles. If you find a product that helps increase collagen production, you're already good to go. Wrinkles form because of the reduction of collagen in the body as we grow old so if you fix this problem, you will be able to get rid of those wrinkles and fine lines. You would need to use the cream for a very long time though to maintain its effects.

Going under the knife is not fun and why should you subject yourself to a procedure if you'd have to return to the doctor, pay another outrageous fee for maintenance? For those who choose botox, it's not entirely a bad idea because it brings faster results compared to wrinkle creams. But whatever method you choose, be sure that you and your pocket are comfortable with it.

Botox Alternative Dysport In Circulation

by Catherine December 01, 2009 07:06

Before and after pictures of Dysport.

Botox Cosmetic and Botox and Dysport are U.S. FDA approved to treat expression lines/facial wrinkles; both are derived from a botulinum protein type A.

The Botox alternative, Dysport is just now getting more patient feedback. The results seem to be mixed. Some people say it's just as good or better than Botox, while others say it doesn't work at all. Dysport has to be mixed differently than Botox, and a less experienced physician or esthetician may not know the difference and dilute the Dysport to be ineffective. Based on the before and after pictures of Dysport, it seems to do exactly what Botox does, but it's results happen quicker (within a few days). The costs of the two are quite different (1 unit of Botox = 2.5 units of Dysport), however you need more Dysport to get the same results with less Botox. The price wars haven't quite begun, but as the effectiveness of Dysport becomes more known, there will be competitions in price. Many doctors are holding off on administering Dysport until more data and results are known.

Botox Without Needles

by Catherine November 19, 2009 07:31
BotoxWow! My favorite cosmetic procedure Botox just got even better - no needles. I love getting Botox, nothing works better for smoothing wrinkles, but the needles always get me a little jumpy and I usually bruise. Well, now pharmaceutical companies are developing a topical Botox. They take the injectable Botox and mix it with a protien that allows penetration of Botox into the skin. It's still in clinical trials, but doctors hope to see it in a gel or cream form within the next two years. This topical Botox will also be used for sweating, muscle contractions, and twitching.
